Храм построен в 1589 году в венецианском стиле Ионических островов и стоит за Листоном, в сердце старого города. Красная колокольня 1620 года — самая высокая на Ионических островах и давно стала символом Керкиры.
Мощи святителя Спиридона пребывают здесь с конца XV века в серебряной раке. Четыре раза в год их обносят вокруг города крестным ходом: в Вербное воскресенье, в Великую Субботу, 11 августа и в первое воскресенье ноября. 1
