Church of Saint Spyridon of Trimythous

Worship

Rules of worship

A few customs of the Orthodox Church, so that every visitor feels at home.

In the church

Come a few minutes before the service begins. Keep silence, switch off your phone and do not walk about during the reading of the Gospel, the Great Entrance and the Eucharistic Canon.

Candles are placed at the candle stands; during the main moments of the service it is better to wait. Children are always welcome.

Dress

Modest clothing: shoulders and knees covered. Men take off their hats; women may cover their heads, as is the custom.

Icons and relics

Venerate the icons and the holy relics calmly, one at a time, and follow the instructions of the clergy and the verger. Please do not venerate with lipstick on.

Photographs

Photography and filming during the services are not allowed without the blessing of the priest. Outside the services — without flash and without disturbing those who pray.

Commemoration lists

Lists are submitted separately for the living and for the departed. Write only the baptismal names of Orthodox Christians, in their full form; clergy are named first, with their rank.

A list can be handed in at the candle stand or submitted online.
